Maria Sunny

People - Issue 20

My name is Sunny. I entered the world of tattoo when I was twenty-three, just a year ago, thanks to Anastasis Karydas who gave me my first tattoo; the sleeve on my arm. I was charmed gradually by tattoo because I had the honour to spend some months at his studio " Titan tattoo" in London - not as an artist but as an assistant - and saw his daily work, his drawings and all the unknown to me, until then, tattoo world. Before I saw tattoo as a form of expression and more ... like a child seeing drawings!

Today the art of tattoo means a lot to me. I have more knowledge and I highly respect it. This is why I loved Japanese, and so one day I decided to decorate my whole arm with flowers and colours. Now, I can't imagine my arm without it. It makes my mood and reminds me of places that I've been and the pain to have it done. That does not intimidate me, so I dream even more Japanese themes on my skin. I think if you start getting tattooed, you never "unravel" with tattoos. Here I want to thank my dearly beloved "little friend" Anastasis Karydas because I am grateful to have one of his wonderful creations.
