People - Issue 19

So it's my time to briefly tell the "big" story of my relationship with tattoos... It was about the beginning of 2000 that I visited a tattoo studio for the first time, after being urged by an acquaintance of mine. It was the studio of the unforgettable Savas Papanikolaou (R.I.P.) - one of the first people that were involved in the tattoo field of Greece. The truth is that I was amazed by him, as well as by his designs and generally the whole climate was intense. This was the beginning: my first two tattoos were Paul Booth's designs who was a close friend of Savas, and had given him some of his designs to tattoo. More tattoos followed, two years later - the small delay was due to lack of money and complains from my partner. The most special ones was the snaggletooth from my favourite band, Motorhead, the tribal logo "S" by Sepultura and also my first elf.

Eventually, due to the personal problems Savas was facing, I turned myself to the Dermagrafics tattoo studio in my neighbourhood, that is owned by my friends Dimitris & Apostolis Aronis. You know, it is hard to change the tattoo artist and the tattoo studio you go, if you trust them. It's something like the dentist... So I got myself there and I didn't lose: the shop, the staff and a talent that is named Agelos TFB (Angelos Perdikaris). So, that was it... We stuck together - we share similar interests - he made a design for me and I knew that I would like it, since he knows exactly who I am and what I want. To such extend, that for the tattoo concept on my back, we had a session each week for five months in a row.

To cut a long story short, tattoo is nor fashion, neither pain. It is love. It is art. Just like someone who wants a painting on the wall, I want the pictures that I like to be indelibly printed on my skin. And like I will always say, only heart emoticon, my family, tattoos and Motorhead of course!
