Simeon Petrou

People - Issue 10

For me, tattoos are closely related to my job. I am a hairdresser and since doing such a creative job, when it comes to appearance I have the "comfort" to be as "extreme" as I want. Ten years ago I had my first tattoo done at a friend's house. In 2006 I had the good fortune to meet Raul, who then had his studio in Palaio Faliro. Since then, all the tattoos on my body are made by Raul. The majority are Black & Grey with some red colour details and their style is mainly Realistic with some Chicano elements. I will continue getting tattooed and my next tattoo is going to be a chest piece.

Name: Simeon Petrou
Profession: Hairdresser.
Residence: Athens.

How many tattoos do you have?

Enough to have my two hands covered, and also some ink on my back, neck and fingers. And not enough to say that I'm really “covered”.

Which artist(s) did your tattoos?

Usually I had my tattoos done by random artists, until I met my favorite artist, Raul (Open Mind Tattoo Club).

Which tattoo is your first and which one was your latest?

A pair of scissors on my left hand and a big piece on my back.

Which tattoo is your favourite and why?

My favorite so far is my latest one on my back and it is devoted to a beloved person of mine, whose loss I have recently experienced... R.I.P.

Which tattoo artist do you admire?

I admire some tattooists from abroad (even though I have not been yet) such as Mr. Cartoon from Miami. In Greece, I love my personal artist Raul (Open Mind) who's tattooing me.

Which tattoo style do you like best?

Old school, Realistic and Colour.

Do you regret getting any of your tattoos, if so why?

I regret for some tattoos of mine, because they don't represent me anymore.

Have you done a tattoo cover up?

I've done a cover up on my elbow because it was made in an “amateurish” way.

Have tattoos affected your life? If so, in what way?

They have had a very positive influence in my psychology and especially in my work…

Do you have an activity of yours that you would like to mention?

Hair – Tattoo.
