People - Issue 10

My tattoo “initiation” started in the early 90's, when as a kid I got impressed by the whole tattoo culture. My first tattoo images were those of my cousin, a classic hard rocker with tattoos, Harleys and an "American dream" that made me see my childhood with greater maturity and love about what I wanted to do when I'll grow up. In the beginning of 2000, I had already decided that I will decorate my body with designs and I made my first steps on tattoos. My first thought was to get the name of my mother – a classic mama's boy – "Athena" tattooed on me. Although inexperienced at the time, I went to Medusa Tattoo Studio for my first tattoo. It may sound unbelievable,  but this tattoo was made by Yorg... I consider myself lucky to have something by such a strong and respected tattoo artist. As the years went by, my addiction increased more and more; that "sweet" pain and "violin" sound in my ears. When I turned twenty three, I began getting more involved with a particular tattoo "school"; Dildo Tattoo. Was it because I grew up with them? Or because I found common things with them? Tzenio, Alex, Alfredo, Harris Bel, and George M. turned out to be part of my daily routine. We ate and hang out together and not only during their work time but outside the studio too. I had understood that they were “my mates”. I can clearly remember Alex’s words "actually, you will get filled pretty soon". As a coincidence,  six years later,  I can now say that I have more tattoos than I had imagined. There is no " best " or " worse " tattoo. You  just have it because you love it and you want it. For me the only wrong thing is by far to “make it now that my body is toned enough and you will look good”. For many people, tattoos may a “trend”, but if you can “support” your tattoos now, you will be able to do it after twenty years as well. I also have to mention that I don’t like it that many “nobodies” have a tattoo sleeve done, without even knowing the reason why. In conclusion, I want to mention that if I hadn’t my tattoos done, I would not be who I am now… Happy and free and I like that any choice of mine leads to something good. Finally, I want to give a special thanks to Ino Mei for this interview, to Eirini K. for her love and support and finally to Dildo Tattoo “the family”.
