People - Issue 24

Since I was a teenager I wanted to become a tattoo artist. I wanted to learn to tattoo people because tattoo is forever and I wanted people to carry my artwork on their skin. I apprenticed with Lin Yo-Yo and now I work at his tattoo studio "Shain Jaing Tattoo" in Nantou in Taiwan. I enjoy most doing colour New School tattoos. .

Name: Luola
Profession: Tattoo Artist at Shain Jaing Tattoo.
Residence: Nantou, Taiwan.

How many tattoos do you have?

Three.

Which artist(s) did your tattoos?

The backpiece is by Lin Yo-Yo and the arm is by Sung Yu-Ron.

Which tattoo is your first and which one was your latest?

The first one is on my leg and the last is the backpiece.

Which tattoo is your favourite and why?

My back piece because I can "carry" it in different tattoo competitions.

Which tattoo artist do you admire?

Habi.

Which tattoo style do you like best?

New School and Traditional Japanese.

Do you regret getting any of your tattoos, if so why?

My first one. I got it when I was sixteen, on my birthday, but I don't like the design anymore and it is one the way of my backpiece.

Have you done a cover up and if so what exactly?

No.

Have tattoos affected your life? If so, in what way?

People in Taiwan are still a bit conservative about tattoos. However, because I am a tattoo artist it does't affect me.

Do you have an activity of yours that you would like to mention?

I love make up! Before tattooing I was a make up artist.
